Retail Experience: The Holiday Season
Since 1981, Carol and John have provided their expertise to the Northern Texas area by making great design and style affordable and personal. Carol from Interior Home Store states "our approach is to incorporate your tastes and meet your budget." She has graciously shared some insights on the holiday season from her experience as a retailer and designer. Read on to hear about her experience hosting events during the holdiay season, challenges, and advice for new retailers.

What are you looking forward to this holiday shopping season?
Carol: We always look forward to our Annual Christmas Open House, which we schedule every year on the 3rd Saturday of October. It is our most anticipated store event of the year for our staff and our customers.

What challenges are you experiencing or planning for this season?
Carol: Receiving our holiday orders in before our Christmas Open House is always a challenge, especially since we need time to price it all, sort, and restyle our entire store to plan its placement, while the store remains open for regular business!

Do you host in-store events for the holiday season?
Carol: We host two major events during the holiday season, one being our Christmas Open House in mid-October and the other event is our Girls' Night Out/Holiday Style on the first Friday night in December. Food, drinks, door prizes, special Guests, and more make for very successful and fun events!

What has been your experience? Any advice to someone who is new to hosting events?
Carol: Use all of your social media platforms to jumpstart and bring customers to your events, we also offer a small gift for the first 50 people who come through the door! They love the food and drinks as well, which always include a few tasty treats we buy at the market and sell ourselves all year through!
Do you offer any perks or specials during the events?
Carol: Extended hours to shop are always part of our holiday season, we offer our jewelry at "Buy One, Get One Free" at our Girls' Night Out Event!

What's your opinion on gift wrapping services? Do you offer it? Do you feel it's valuable to the customer experience?
Carol: We offer Gift Wrap for FREE all year long...it is a nice quality personalized gift bag filled with pretty tissues and ribbons to match the season. It is an important part of our exceptional customer service experience and our advertising plan since the gift and bag leaves here and goes to many a birthday party or under a Christmas tree or company event.
