Made from Terracotta

Many of our planters, vases, and decorative accents are made from natural terracotta and hand-thrown by artisans in India. Our exclusive terracotta designs feature hand-crafted elements using techniques that makers take great pride in executing. Such elements include hand painted and carved patterns, hand-formed attachments, and rattan wrapped accents carefully added to each piece by hand. Some of our pieces are even formed on a manual, hand spun pottery wheel (see example).

Our black smoke terracotta is created using a unique process. The piece is sculpted from clay and the black finish is achieved by not allowing smoke to escape the kiln after firing. The smoke settles into the pores of the hand thrown terracotta. This is a process that results in natural variation in texture and finish.

In addition to being a sustainable material choice, terracotta clay has a natural porosity that provides good growing conditions for plants.
